Hi everyone this has been sent to me and is an extract from a letter by Dr Fiona Wight who is a friend – Please read what she has to say and stop the government from destroying our NHS.
“Dear All
I am taking the liberty of contacting you because of the gravity of this situation.
This bill in struggling through parliament. This weekend the Lib Dem conference has an opportunity to make it their policy to vote against it. Next Tuesday there will be a debate (partly due to the 170000 e petition signatures) and there is a further hearing mid March in the house of Lords .
All health professional organisations have now come out against it – including the surgeons and including the GPs who are supposed to be at the vanguard of it. It is complex and there has been limited or very biassed publicity but those who understand it are seriously concerned about the impact on the NHS.
i am confident that if this Bill is passed the NHS as we know it will cease.
See below the short letter I wrote to my MP and a Lord.
Extract from my letter: I write in my personal capacity but as a Consultant in Public Health Medicine who has worked all my adult life in the NHS. I am seriously concerned that this bill will fragment the NHS, make it impossible to plan services to ensure equity, lead to postcode lotteries and divert public funds away from the front line to management and to private sector. The risk register, important in a democracy to help people understand the risks has not yet been published and the cap on private patients has been removed. I urge you to use your powers to address these issues and, more importantly, vote to oppose this Bill. If we don’t collectively fight this Bill the NHS as a publicly funded service will not continue and there will be grave consequences for all users of this much envied service.
If you are able to – sign the petition, write briefly to your MP or a Lord, order free posters then cut and paste this link into your web browser: http://goingtowork.org.uk/saveournhs The guide you through the process and it can take just half to one hour.
Some of you know me as a political campaigner. This was mainly confined to my student activist days. As a middle of the road, corporate, pragmatist who works in the NHS toeing the line I am now spurred into action because this is serious. Please take a little time to take some actions before it is too late and do contact me if you have any queries. “
